About Keiki Stories
In early Sophomore year, I founded Keiki Stories: a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating children’s books that celebrate mixed-race, multicultural kids and those who’ve ever felt like they don’t quite fit in. Through storytelling, we foster self-reflection, cultural pride, and a sense of belonging, ensuring every child knows their story matters.
Hawaii has the highest population of mixed-race people of any state in the U.S., yet many mixed-race children—myself included—rarely see their identities reflected in stories. Every child deserves to have their story told, and it’s especially powerful when kids can see themselves in the books they read.
Through Keiki Stories, I have authored and self-published two books: A Rocket to Belonging and What Would You Wish For? While both books have different things to offer—the former is about a young boy connecting with his heritage and culture through his grandfather, and the other is a partnership with Make-A-Wish Hawaii about a wish kid deciding on his wish—both stress the acceptance of difference and our own unique perspectives.
